Indication of blow by: do a leak down test to find out if you're losing pressure in the front or rear cylinder. If your drawers are dirty after breaking wind.....;)

You'll definitely have to remove the motor to replace the rings. Remove top end, heads and cylinders. The process is laid out in your service manual; TJ explains in the video below.
